Privacy Policy
Effective June 22, 2026
Words Abide helps you record messages for the people who matter to you, and delivers them to the recipients you choose if you stop checking in. Because we hold deeply personal information for a deeply personal purpose, we keep this policy plain and honest. It explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.
This policy applies to the Words Abide website, mobile apps, and related services (the "Service"), operated by Techno Wizardry ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the Service:
- Account information. Your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with a third party (for example Google, or Facebook where offered), we receive your basic profile and email from that provider to create and authenticate your account.
- Recipient information you provide. The names and email addresses of the people you choose to receive your messages. You are responsible for having a basis to share their contact details with us for this purpose.
- Your messages. The text and audio recordings you create, and the recipient groups you attach them to. These are stored so they can be delivered later, on your instructions.
- Check-in activity. The times you check in and the schedule you set, which together drive whether and when your messages are released.
- Device and notification data. Push notification tokens, device platform, app version, and similar data needed to send you reminders.
- Payment information. If you subscribe, your payment is processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers; we receive limited billing status and transaction details.
- Technical and usage data. IP address, device and browser details, and diagnostic logs used to operate, secure, and debug the Service.
How we use your information
- To run the core service: track your check-ins, remind you when one is due, and, if your check-in lapses according to the schedule you set, deliver your messages to the recipients you chose.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To send service communications by email, SMS, and push notification (check-in reminders, recipient verification, receipts, and account notices).
- To process payments and manage subscriptions.
- To prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and improve reliability.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the content of your messages for advertising or to train unrelated products.
The release of your messages
This is the heart of the Service, so we want it to be clear: your messages stay private with us while you keep checking in. If you stop checking in for the window you configured, and only then, we deliver the messages you created to the recipient group you chose, by email and (where enabled) SMS, along with a secure link to view or listen. You choose the recipients, the schedule, and the messages, and you can change or delete them at any time before a release.
How we share information
We share information only in these limited ways:
- With your chosen recipients, and only when your messages are released according to your settings.
- With service providers (sub-processors) who process data on our behalf under contract, including: payment processing (Stripe), SMS delivery providers (including Telnyx), email delivery, push notification delivery (Expo, Apple, and Google), third-party sign-in (Google, and Facebook where offered), cloud hosting and file storage for your recordings, and error monitoring. They may only use the data to provide their service to us.
- For legal reasons, if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition, subject to this policy.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own advertising.
We treat your mobile phone number with extra care. We do not sell, rent, or share mobile phone numbers, or the SMS consent (opt-in) information you give us, with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. The service providers listed above who help us deliver text messages may use your number only to send the messages you asked us to send.
Sign-in with Google or Facebook
If you choose to sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive only the basic profile information and email address needed to create and authenticate your account. We do not post anything to your social account, and we do not access your contacts or social connections. You can disconnect this access at any time from your Google or Facebook account settings, and you can delete your Words Abide account and data as described below.
Your rights and choices
You can access, correct, export, or delete your information, and close your account. You can manage your recipients, messages, and schedule directly in the app. To make a privacy request, contact us at [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing; we honor these rights.
How to delete your data
You can delete your account and associated personal data at any time from your account settings in the app, or by emailing [email protected] with the subject "Delete my data". When you delete your account, we remove your profile, messages, recordings, recipients, and check-in history from active systems, and purge them from backups within the retention period below. If you signed in with Google or Facebook, deleting your Words Abide account removes the data we obtained from that provider. See our data deletion instructions for the full process.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. After you delete your account, or after a prolonged period of inactivity, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period (typically within 30 days from active systems, and shortly after from routine backups), except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, accounting, or security obligations.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, and storage of your recordings in access-restricted systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly to any incident.
Children
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your data is processed
Words Abide is operated from Boulder, Colorado, United States, and we and our service providers process and store your information in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed here. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for any international transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
